(Artist Unknown) - "Losing Ourselves"

This piece is from a student art display at the Portland Art Museum. It shows a rather striking "transformation sequence" that's expressing a heartbreaking sentiment about modern American culture. Great piece. There is either a signature or some initials at the bottom of the piece, which say either "Aja K." or maybe "AJ K." My photo isn't completely clear, and there wasn't a description card for this individual piece. (The student pieces were hung by little alligator clips, but it's still pretty cool to hang student work in a REAL museum!) ---Richard F. William-Adolphe Bouguereau - "Nature's Fan" (1881)

This piece, from the Portland Art Museum, is absolutely stunning. The light, the tone... I'm completely in awe of this artist's technique. Probably my favorite single piece in the entire museum (and that's saying a lot!) If you get a chance to visit Portland, you really should see this painting in person.
